Publishing 2.0 News: Jan 18 2009

Here are some of the interesting things on the blogs and news this week

· Waterstones in the UK has sold 30,000 Sony ebook readers since the launch and 75,000 ebooks from their site. 2009 is definitely the year of the ebook – with the combination of global economy and the ease of digital publishing, authors have to get on the band-wagon. Check out this post for how to use Smashwords to easily publish your book in multiple ebook formats.

· Manhattan hotel Algonquin is offering guests a Kindle on loan and free ebook with each stay promoting the technology.

· Amusing tongue-in-cheek video about how books are really made

· Social networking for authors is an important form of book promotion. But there are so many! This post outlines which ones authors are actually using most – and the winner is…

· 50 useful Google apps for writers – I currently use Chrome (brilliant browser), Picasa for photo sharing and editing, Reader for my blog reading and updates, Gmail to keep all my useful email on the internet, Alerts to keep track of who is posting what about me and my books, Book Search to enable my book to be found online…plus some others, but this is my main core group of tools.

· Published and Profitable passes on a list of top article sites to submit to

· Twitter is catching on – check out this Twitter author list – and you can follow me @thecreativepenn

· Visualisation of internet Publishing trends – I currently have my book on Amazon, Stanza, Smashwords, Authonomy, Lulu…. so there are a lot more places to go yet!
