Prosumers are the future now

by Joanna Penn on December 3, 2008

Prosumers are producers and consumers of information.

We read, listen and watch online now, and we post comments, photos, video, blogs, essays and our lives online. We produce information, and we consume it.
Fast.
I am Generation X. I didn’t have an email account until I started consulting at aged 21. I hand wrote my essays at University. I researched with real books in stacks in the Uni library and wrote paper slips for librarians to find them for me. I still use the Filofax I bought with my first pay-cheque.
But I am also an IT consultant. I don’t have a TV but watch YouTube and drama on my laptop through iTunes. I read Google news. I publish e-books and print-on-demand through Amazon.com. I webcam on Skype with my Mum. I want a Kindle. I love blogs. I am on a dozen social networking sites. I am a prosumer, and excited at what the future is bringing for us.
Who are you…and what do you think?
