    • Thanks for this. I keep hearing everyone talk about branding, but I didn't really know what it meant.

      • Branding is a PR and marketing concept that has to do with delineating the "unique" properties of your product.Or, "What the hell makes you so different?"

        • Another deeper take on branding for writers is the belief of your purpose. For instance, my purpose is tied to the 6 year old child on the town, school-bus that took me to my Applachian grade school. A rotund, kindly maid rode our bus, who read stories to all the project kids that would take turns sitting on her lap.

          • It's amazing where inspiration comes from. Mine was my grandson. I wanted him to have a story told by me with his name in it. At the same time the South Florida Museum was showing an exhibition on bats. Out of that came my first book "Just Batty".

It's about a young boy who learns about bats in school and how they need help to survive. Together with his extended family they put up a bat house on the family farm.

during the journey to create this book I fell in love with bats and all they do for us. I'm now a member of the Bat Conservency International and talk about helping bats where ever I can. I was even donated a bat house from Defour Herbs down here in sarasota to help with my talks.

Inspiration is all around us we just have to look.

            Brenda

    • Hi Edie,
I do love the idea of a Mastermind group and it is something I have thought about but not something I am doing right now.
Let me know if you put one together as I am also interested but just don't have the bandwidth to organize.
      Thanks, Joanna

  • Thank you. I'm hoping to write my first short e-book soon. I just finished downloading your guide.

  • Joanna,
Thanks so much for this. I've followed u for a long time, and you never fail to be inspirational! I watched your utube video on facebook pages. It's SO helpful. I went and designed my cover-- I havent' published yet, but am a quarter-finalist in the Amazon Breakthrough Novel Award and since they are putting up an author page with the excerpts for reviews and fans will vote in the end, I'm creating a FB page for my book. Still, I can't figure out how to put TEXT on the book. I've got an image, and that's all.
I used gailbottomsly- but how do you do text?

    Thanks SOO much for everything!!

    • Wow! That's great Janet - I hope you make the finals of ABNA and then win :)
Re your image and putting text on the book - do you mean on the cover? When I did my own cover, I used Lulu.com's cover tool and that was pretty easy but then I paid a professional for Pentecost and that's much better - so I recommend you use a professional cover designer. But then if you win ABNA, you'll have a publisher for that!
If you mean you just need an image for your Facebook page, then I just used Powerpoint for PC where you can add words and pics in layers, then took a screenshot of that as a .jpg using Snagit. There are lots of other ways to do this.
Hope that helps you get started.
      Thanks, Joanna

  • Hello Jo!
Your stimulating day at QWC left me saturated with info and excitement so that I got lost on the way home. Thanks a lot. I'll have to think the world differently. We are in a revolution only I didn't know. I spent 18 years and AUD2m to devise fun material that heals and works for K-12 literacy and/or numeracy struggling learners. Now I have a perfectly edited memoir of the whole bizzo. Dyslexia: Christina's Story A personal and academic memoir. Is there any chance it could be serialised a la Charlie Dickens - only on the Internet somewhere. There are terrific illustrations from the 1600-page books by famous Armin Greder and the two parallels are my dyslectic family and the battles against authorities who fear US-style litigation if the D word is used here! Title sucks but I'm thinking on that.
Thanks again for enlightening and exhausting me so well.

    • Hi Christina,
I'm so glad you enjoyed the day and that you can start to put these ideas into action for your book - it's an important topic.
All the best with your journey!
      Thanks, Joanna

  • Thanks for the lovely comfortable encouraging. When my beboggled brain can get around the dicky 'how-tos' I'll dance in the street with not much on even if it's raining!
I'm a holistic thinker that is not technical though my dyslectic bro won major invention awards that were V.V.V.V techno!

  • Just a note to let you know that the free download for Author 2.0 Blueprint does not work. All that comes up on the computer is a blank white screen. I am very interested in this e-book. Is there anything that can be done about this?
