The publishing industry is hit with layoffs and plummeting profits, and is having to change to a new way of publishing books.
Here are some of the latest print-on-demand (POD) updates to prove that this is not just a way of printing for self-published authors. It also means that out of print books can be sold again.
- Random House unveils print-on-demand collection following Faber’s out of print classics POD
- University of Minnesota Press will issue it’s out of print backlist on POD – that’s every title since it opened in 1925
- 2 new print-on-demand companies open in India,Pothi.com and Cinnamon Teal. With a population of over a billion people, this is an exciting market. I will try to submit my book to their sites, and report back on this experience.
- Lulu.com are also in partnership with WeRead, a book social networking site to offer print-on-demand services.
- Tools of Change are offering a free webcast for publishers on print-on-demand (Dec 3). They will focus on how it can be used for managing inventory and total costs, as well as using real world examples.
Print-on-demand makes it easy to get your book out there for very little start-up costs, and no printing or shipping costs or effort upfront.
