OLD POST ALERT! This is an older post and although you might find some useful tips, any technical or publishing information is likely to be out of date. Please click on Start Here on the menu bar above to find links to my most useful articles, videos and podcast. Thanks and happy writing! – Joanna Penn

The Creative Penn is for writers, authors, publishers and marketing people i.e. those involved in the creation and distribution of books in physical or digital format. It's not primarily aimed at readers and I don't usually do book reviews unless they serve a purpose in demonstrating a particular aspect I wanted to outline. It's not a genre blog either and I hope you find useful information whether you write non-fiction business, romance, sci-fi or cookbooks.

But I'm now a thriller author and I'm also a voracious reader, primarily of mysteries and thrillers in the fiction area so I needed somewhere new to talk about the genre…

Introducing Mystery Thriller TV, a new blog for the mystery and thriller genre. It's primarily a video blog with text below each video where I will be posting book reviews and also author interviews. I already have a couple of reviews (JA Konrath's Origin & Daniel Suarez Daemon) and also an interview with Elizabeth Spann Craig / Riley Adams where we talk about cozy mysteries.

If you like mysteries/ thrillers, please consider submitting your reviews in text or video format – more details here.

If you write within the genre, you might like to have an author interview for your book promotion – more details here.

You can also join the Facebook page here -> Facebook/MysteryThrillerTV

I look forward to seeing you on the site if you love the genre! Please do let me know what you think of the new site in the comments.

  • Dear Joanna:
I am looking forward to becoming a regular visitor. And, perhaps, a contributor. I've probably read well over 1,000 mystery titles.

Question, though: are you only interested in reviews of contemporary authors, or are you open to "interpretive" reviews of older mystery books and--especially--series, i.e., Robert Parker's Spenser series, that have offered decades of pleasure?

Good luck on your new venture!

    Roger

    • Hi Roger, I absolutely want reviews of older titles as well, certainly in the mystery genre which goes back a lot further than the thriller aspects. I know you love Robert Parker and would love a review (or a few) from you! I don't want the site to be entirely skewed to my perspective and we all have different books that we like.
So yes, I'm definitely open to all kinds of books. Thanks, Joanna
