Authonomy: Submit your book, rate others and vote for publishing

OLD POST ALERT! This is an older post and although you might find some useful tips, any technical or publishing information is likely to be out of date. Please click on Start Here on the menu bar above to find links to my most useful articles, videos and podcast. Thanks and happy writing! – Joanna Penn

Publishing houses are doing some cool things to stay on top of new technology, so it is not all doom and gloom in Publishing 1.0.

Harper Collins have started Authonomy, which is a social networking meritocracy that aims to beat the slush pile. Authors submit their books by creating a page and uploading (part or a full book). People can then read it online (for free) and submit comments, adding it to their booklists and voting it up.

The top 5 books each month are taken to Harper Collins for publication consideration.
The site works best if you are active on it, reviewing other books so people can find yours and hopefully review it back. You can also create an author page with links to your website so people can find you. All links are good!
For an example, you can see my book page for “How to Enjoy Your Job” and also my author profile.
